Callback Autodialers

Automated
Transparent Operations
The user simply dials an international
call directly as usual and waits for the call to be answered while
the AutoRoute SPD (Single Purpose Dialer) performs the necessary
dialing procedure to process the call through the Alternative
Carrier in a manner totally transparent to the user.
Concurrent Operations to Save
Time
AutoRoute SPD reads the digits
dialed by the user to look for Intercept Sequences and when an
Intercept Sequence is found, it proceeds to check the detected
Intercept Sequence against its database of Exception Sequences
to see if there is a match.
If no Intercept Sequence is found,
or if an Exception Sequence is found, the user digits go through
to the Central Office (telephone exchange) as usual.
If an Intercept Sequence is found
and no match of an Exception Sequence is found, AutoRoute SPD
seizes the call and executes two concurrent operations: With respect
to the caller (user) it remains in off-hook condition and continues
to collect the digits dialed by the user. Meanwhile with respect
to the Central Office it goes on-hook briefly and then goes off-hook
to obtain a fresh dial tone and dials the access number written
in its routing program and waits to detect some kind of signal
tone, usually 400 Hz, before dialing the digits which it has collected.
It can also dial a PIN or security code before or after the destination
number if necessary. It then either cuts the user through to the
Alternative Carrier's dialing operation.
Versatile Programmable Functions
AutoRoute SPD is programmed using
the AutoProgrammer (hardware) and SPDsoft (software) running under
Windows to perform virtually all kinds of automated functions
to process a call through an Alternative Carrier in all kinds
of procedures adopted by different service providers. AutoRoute
SPD may also be programmed to re-route calls when the usual routing
operation through the Alternative Carrier fails. Examples: (1)
The AutoRoute SPD may be programmed to abandon the routing operation
and make the call through the regular telephone network in the
event that it finds that the Alternative Carrier is out of order
(for example, no response from the system after the access number
is dialed). (2) The AutoRoute SPD may be programmed to continue
to redial a call until it goes through in the event that it detects
a busy signal after dialing the access number when the Alternative
Carrier's system is congested. (3) If the Alternative Carrier
is able to generate the DTMF tones A, B, C, or D when it is unable
to handle a call, the AutoRoute SPD may be programmed to look
for that tone and, if detected, abandon the routing operation
and optionally re-route the call through the telephone company
network or another Alternative Carrier.
Non-Volatile Memory
All routing and other instructions
programmed into AutoRoute SPD are saved in EEPROM and, as such,
will not be lost even in the event of a general electrical power
failure.
Multiple Routes
AutoRoute SPD can be programmed
to perform automated operations to process calls through multiple
Alternative Carriers according to different routing instructions.
Virtually unlimited number of routes for routing calls to different
service providers' systems, according to the Intercept Sequence
of the user dialed number, can be programmed into AutoRoute SPD
(limited only by the capacity of the EEPROM installed).
Intercept Sequences
These are sequences that AutoRoute
SPD looks out for to decide whether or not to intercept a call
and process it through an Alternative Carrier. Intercept Sequences
are usually the international call routing code and national call
routing code of the country in which the AutoRoute SPD is installed,
for example 00, 0, 011, 1, 0011, etc. Destination sensitive routing
may be performed by programming country codes and city codes in
the Intercept Sequences, for example 0041, 00353, etc. There is
virtually no limit to the number of Intercept Sequences that can
be programmed into an AutoRoute SPD (limited only by the capacity
of the EEPROM installed).
Exception Sequences
Exceptions to a routing program
are allowed by entries of Exception Sequences in the program.
For example, 1800, 1900, 1976, 00525, and 0735 could be exceptions
to the Intercept Sequences 1, 00, and 07. There is virtually no
limit to the number of Exception Sequences that can be programmed
into an AutoRoute SPD (limited only by the capacity of the EEPROM
installed).
Abbreviated Dialing Function
Frequently called numbers can
be dialed as an abbreviated number of 2 or 3 digits as Intercept
Sequences for AutoRoute SPD to pick and translate into complete
telephone numbers to be dialed through a certain service provider's
network according to certain Least Cost Routing instructions.
Hang Up Supervision
AutoRoute SPD can be programmed
to detect on-hook condition at the end of a call routed by it
and then generate a DTMF tone (for example A, B, C, #, *) or sequences
of tones (for example AB, ###, **) to tell the Alternative Carrier
the end of a call session.
Benefits to the User
AutoRoute SPD enables the user
of pulse-dialing or rotary-dial telephones to make use of an Alternative
Carrier Service.
AutoRoute SPD's automated functions eliminate the tedium and bother
of manual dialing and ensure dialing accuracy to access the Alternative
Carrier and enforce the corporate management's regime designed
to achieve savings on long distance calls by routing such calls
through the Alternative Carrier.
AutoRoute SPD automatically routes calls through one Alternative
Carrier or another or through the telephone company network according
to its Least Cost Routing programming to achieve the greatest
savings.
AutoRoute SPD's automated dialing function reduces dialing time
by as much as 65%. It saves time and money.
AutoRoute SPD may be programmed to automatically dial a disconnect
sequence (required by some Alternative Carriers to indicate the
end of a call) when the user hangs up, thus eliminating the need
for the user to remember to do so.
Benefits to You, the Alternative Carrier
With AutoRoute SPD you can offer
the service to telephone service subscribers in areas where DTMF
tone dialing service is not available. It works well with pulse
dialing telephone lines and thus opens up new markets for your
service.
AutoRoute SPD automatically seizes every call that you want to
capture for routing through your Alternative Carrier Service thus
optimizing on revenue earning on the particular installation.
AutoRoute SPD allows you to selectively route only the calls that
you want to carry through your Alternative Carrier Service, thus
saving you time and resources.
AutoRoute SPD's automated functions and transparent operations
allow your Service to be used by every telephone user, even ones
that are unable to follow the procedure of making a call through
an Alternative Carrier.
In the event that your Alternative Carrier Service is unable to
carry the call due to system failure or whatever reasons, AutoRoute
SPD can automatically re-route the calls through the telephone
company network.
Programming System Configuration
The configuration of the programming
system for at-site programming consists of AutoProgrammer which
has its RS232 output port connected to a serial port of a PC running
SPDsoft in Windows environment and its CO port connected to the
CO port of the AutoRoute SPD to be programmed.
For remote programming, the AutoRoute
SPD is connected by a telephone line to the Public Switched Telephone
Network (PSTN) at the far-end, while at the near-end the AutoProgrammer,
which is connected to a PC running SPDsoft in the same manner
as described above, is also connected to the PSTN.
Programming Operation
The routing programs are written
in SPDsoft by simple point and click actions in various windows
according to what you want the AutoRoute SPD to do in simulating
the actions that one would take in a manual operation to use the
Alternative Carrier's Service.
The program is downloaded into
the non-volatile memory of the AutoRoute SPD from the PC via the
data link (serial port of PC to RS232 port of AutoRoute SPD) in
DTMF one line of program at a time. This program transfer operation
is carried out with great accuracy by having a positive receipt
verification of each line of program confirmed between SPDsoft
and the AutoRoute SPD through AutoProgrammer before the programming
operation proceeds to transfer the next line of the program.
Remote Programming
AutoProgrammer allows remote programming
of the AutoRoute SPD. For remote programming, you would dial up,
from SPDsoft running in the PC, the AutoRoute SPD installed on
a telephone line in a remote location; wait for the call to be
answered by a person or a telephony device, such as a fax machine;
and send the program from SPDsoft to the AutoRoute SPD over the
telephone line. A version of AutoRoute SPD with autoanswer function
is available. With the autoanswer version of AutoRoute SPD, which
answers calls automatically after 10 rings, there is no need to
have a person or a telephony device answer when you call to reprogram.
Alternatively the programming may be initiated by the user of
the AutoRoute SPD by calling the programming system using the
telephony device connected to the AutoRoute SPD.
SPDsoft
SPDsoft is a Windows-based software
for programming various versions of AutoRoute SPD. It is intuitive
in its design and is therefore easy for anyone who is computer
literate to use. The PC for running it has to have the minimum
system configuration described as follows: a PC with 80386 CPU,
4 MB of RAM, running at 33 MHz, a Hard Drive with 1 MB of available
disk space, an available serial port, and Windows enabled.
The programming kit is supplied
with a detailed Installation and Programming Manual, which gives
step-by-step procedures for programming the AutoRoute SPDs for
different applications. The explanation is complete with many
examples to help users to write the programs themselves.
